VTV Binh Dien Cup 2013

As part of our preparation for the 17th Asian Womens Volleyball Championship in Thailand later on in the year, we are travelling to Vietnam to compete in the 2013 VTV Binh Dien Cup.

This tournament has been running for the last seven years, jointly sponsored by VTV (Vietnam Television) and Binh Dien Fertiliser Company. We attended the last two tournaments, in Bien Hoa in 2011 and Hau Giang last year.

This year tournament will be held in Gia Lai, a mountainous region about 400km north of Ho Chi Minh city. Being in the highland the climate there is significantly cooler than what it has been here in Ho Chi Minh city in the last few days. 36C with high humidity.

This tournament will see a number of debutants, Georgia Davey 18, Nikala Cunningham 18, Rebecca Reeve 18, Karley Hynes 20 and Ru-yenn Kwok 20. We will also see some regular faces like captain Olivia Orchard, Jenny Day, Sarah Choat, Louise Bates, Rhiannon Watt and the versatile Tallisha Harden McKinnon.

We also welcome Tara West back to the fold as our trainer/physio for the tour.

The tour is headed by Pauline Manser with Chau Le as the team manager.

We would like to thank Vietnam Volleyball and the sponsors VTV and Binh Dien for their continuing support of VTAW.

We also would like to thank AVF’s High Performance Administrator, Steve Benson for his tireless work in making sure that everything is taken care of for this tour and many past tours.

We would like to thank Sue Waterfall from Victoria and Wally Warniarcha from South Australia for providing much needed training sessions for the girls in readiness for  the tour. Wish you could be with us.

Our first game will be on Sunday 3rd of March at midnight AEST against VietsoPetro.

Please keep checking back here for daily stories and updates of the tour.
