Update 1 – Blog From 201

Monday 3rd January
After a big day of travelling, we were happy to hear that our hotel was just a quick drive from the airport. We arrived, off-loaded our suitcases and headed off to supermarket to stock up on water and snacks- little did we know, it was peak hour at the Maximart.
We trecked through the crowds and managed to grab everything we needed, but it was at the checkout that the real drama started. We were all waiting patiently in line, when a Vietnamese woman (less than half our size) tried to push in front of us. But no one messes with us Aussie girls… With some team work, and a little strategy, we managed to block the woman from the line until we had all been through the checkout!! Eh- Oz (no clap-clap)!
Then it was back to the hotel and straight into bed to catch up on some sleep!
That’s all for now!
Lots of love, Room 201 (Shae and Westy)

Tuesday 4th January
This morning we woke up bright and early and headed downstairs for breakfast. There was heaps of food to eat, but unfortunately the hotel had no bowls for us to use to eat our cereal. Rowie did some quick problem solving and managed to borrow some bowls from the restaurant across the road- LIFESAVER!

Before our match against Tan Binh

After brekkie, we headed off to training. The stadium was good, however some of us are convinced that the court was a little short of 9 x 9m long. There was also no air-conditioning, which was fine for most of us, except for the team’s sweaty kid, Rhiannon Watt. Boy does she sweat! We could literally ring out her shirt and bike shorts at the end of training! ☺
After training, we did a quick recovery session in the pool (and Cheno… we thought about you as the pool was THAT deep that we don’t think you would have been able to stand in the shallow end!). Next it was back to hotel for the best Vietnamese lunch we had ever had thanks to some awesome ordering off the menu by Chau and Nam!

Then it was back to the stadium for a practice match against Tan Binh (the team that Jenny Day played with this year). The game was a close one with each team winning two sets each, before Nam told us that the match was over. We all felt VERY jipped as we definitely would have won the 5th set if we had played! But Nat made a great point- we can claim the win as our points percentage would have been higher. Great success!!!

The two teams after the match

After the game, we headed back to the hotel. Tonight we are off to the markets to do some shopping!!
That’s all for now!
Much love, Room 201 (Westy and Shae)

  1. Karma… that is all Westy!!! x

  2. And next to the pool would read: “Here lies Kat Chen – drowned in the shallow end…”

How depressing. Pool recovery doesn’t even work Chris!!!
